4 Tips for a Fast C-Section Recovery
Childbirth is a really exciting time. You finally get to welcome your baby which grew inside you for 9 long months. However, it comes with its challenges as you need to take care of yourself more especially if had caesarean delivery which is commonly known as C-Section.
In this type
of delivery, you will need more time to recover than the normal delivery.
Here are the 4 best suggestions to care for yourself after C- Section delivery.
1. Get Plenty of Rest
Caesarean delivery is major surgery. Just like with any other surgery, your body needs time to recover after its surgery.
Expect to
stay in the hospital for 2 to 4 days after delivery. If there are
complications, then your stay would be longer. Give your body at least 4 to 6
weeks to completely heal.
Resting is difficult with a newborn because it demands a lot of attention. Try to sleep whenever your baby sleeps. Take a few rests here and there throughout the day.
2. Baby your Body
Take extra
care while giving yourself time to heal. Avoid going upstairs and downstairs, and keep everything you need around you like food, supplies, diapers etc. so that
you don’t get up too often.
Don’t lift
anything heavier than your baby. It would take up to 8 weeks to get back to a normal routine like work, exercise or driving. Check-in with your doctor from
time to time till you heal well. Whenever you have to cough or sneeze, hold
your abdomen to protect the section.
3. Focus on Good Nutrition
Good
nutrition is equally important after childbirth as it was during the months of
pregnancy. You are the baby's source of nutrition, especially when you are
breastfeeding.
Eating
fruits and vegetables helps as it provides flavours to the best milk
which is needed for child’s enjoyment and consuming it helps as they
grow.
Drink plenty
of fluids especially water to boost milk supply and also to prevent
constipation.
4. Relieve your pain
Ask your
doctor about what pain medications you can take especially if you feel
discomfort, your doctor might prescribe you over-the-counter medications
such as ibuprofen.
In addition
to it, you can use a heating pad to relieve discomfort at the surgical site.
