SUGAR FREE DRINKS AT STARBUCKS
Whether you're on the keto diet, attempting to cut calories, or wanting to reduce your daily sugar intake, coffee may be the easiest area to drop a few grammes. (How many times have you heard, "don't drink your calories?") If you start your day with a trip to Starbucks, you might be wondering what low-sugar alternatives are available, because your usual venti caramel macchiato with extra drizzle isn't.

Sugar is
naturally absent from unsweetened coffee, tea, and espresso. If you don't like
your beverages black, you may always add a zero-calorie sweetener (such as
Splenda) to make them more to your liking without increasing the sugar level.
However, Stoler warns against doing so on a frequent basis.
Rather of
satiating our sweet appetite with sugar replacements, Stoler suggests we aim to
reduce our need for sweet drinks in general and instead drink unsweetened coffee
or tea... or simply enjoy genuine sugar in moderation.
While the
brand does sell sugar-free flavour syrups, all of its milks do include some.
So, while you may order a low-sugar latte at Starbucks, it's difficult to
acquire one that's completely sugar free.
Nonetheless, Stoler emphasises that ordinary dairy milk has a more comprehensive nutritional profile than non-dairy milks (hello, protein), and you never know what's in the alternative milk you purchase at a café.
So, keep
this in mind when you make your order, and feel free to request that the
operator display you the ingredients and nutrition statistics for the nondairy
milk in your drink. At the end of the day, whether we're talking about
zero-calorie replacements or plain old sugar, moderation is crucial.
